Short Wintry Run

We dodged a forecast snowstorm yesterday but there was a lot of rain and today's cold resulted in quite a bit of ice on the sidewalks. I struggled with the footing fort 5K in 33 minutes but was glad to get it in. It will warm up again so I hope the ice goes away quickly. But why or why do people not clear their sidewalks?

5K Without Falling

Man that was a tough one. It was bright and mild but there was a thin layer of black ice pretty much everywhere. I should have abandoned it right away but tried to navigate the route to avoid any ice. The busy streets and sidewalks tended to be better than the normal quiter neighbourhood residential streets and I made it through 5K+ in 33+ minutes without wiping out.

Four Miles After a Really Late Night

It's a holiday Monday so the idea of a late movie on a Sunday night didn't seem like a bad idea. But with a 10pm start and a two and a half hour run time, plus travel time and then a quick pick up of the reading week kid from a friend's, it was pretty much 1:30am before I went to bed. I wasn't really into a run with a 9am start time and had a sluggish start, but the bright sun and crisp cool air got me going. I settle for 4+ miles with another finish at Tim's, even though today I passed on the breakfast sandwich. I've also decided that their coffee is too bland for my taste---I know, I'm a heretic!

10K with Tim's

It was cold but bright and sunny. The real issue was the many patches of ice, some of which were hard to spot. I ran in the middle of the road in residential areas as much as possible. At the 8.5 mark we stopped for coffee and I threw in an egg white breakfast sandwich on a whole wheat English muffin. Then I ran home to complete 10K in about 66 minutes. Not bad for winter maintenance but not good for any pending half marathons or 30K events. I've sold my bib for Around the Bay at the end of March and may do the same for the Chilly Half in two weeks. The latter I probably could do with a fair bit of walking so it may depend on the weather. It also involves two trips to Burlington as there is no same day kit pickup.

5K in Dreary Fog

It was grey but not windy and reasonably mild. I have a busy day but was glad to get in a 5K first thing. The fact that daylight is noticeably earlier helps things along quite nicely. The temperature was around freezing and while there were a couple of slippery spots, overall it was fine.

Tough Slogging

There was a sudden snow squall as we were about to head out so we delayed for a bit. Ultimately we cut it short at under 5K but still got something in. now of course it is gorgeous out! But I like to get it done first thing and not leave it hanging.

5K in Snow and Cold

I looked outside and almost bailed. All but one of the crew in fact did bail, but two of us headed out. The north wind was strong and hurt my eyes, and the footing not great even with the Yaktrax. But we got in 5K and then had a warm coffee and a more pleasant stroll home. Not sure about an 8K or eight mile race in Waterloo tomorrow (last year we did the 8K) or possibly a Running Room 5.3K tune up run.

Spectacular 8K

Yesterday's hockey did take its toll plus we had a late night, so I didn't answer the bell for the 8:30 start. Just as well. By waiting I went longer and in warmer weather. I had on just a tee and a light top and when I was heading in a southerly direction I actually was hot! I took it easy and got in 53 minutes. I don't see a half in four weeks but you never know!

5K Before Outdoor Hockey

I got in a quick 5K this morning and now have an all day outdoor work tournament-should be fun! I wonder if I will have anything in my legs for another run tomorrow.

7K Before Work

The wind was fairly brisk but it was warm and I got hot quite quickly.   It was good to get in my 45 minutes after an intense leg and core workout yesterday.  My trainer will be retiring soon so it will be interesting to see what I’m able to maintain on the non-running side!
